While many Iowa businesses, including hair salons and bookstores, have temporarily shuttered due to coronavirus fears, a chain of porn shops is still welcoming customers with open, er, arms.

Romantix, which bills itself as the “premier adult toy retailer in Des Moines,” currently has nine stores open in Iowa, including two in the capital.

Store reps at the Des Moines locations confirmed on Friday that they had not closed, reported the Des Moines Register.

In a bid to halt the COVID-19 spread, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered most nonessential retail stores to close last week and has extended the order through April 30, according to the Register.

But the Republican pol’s decree doesn’t explicitly cite porn shops, so Romantix management is keeping the lights on despite several similar businesses grinding to a halt.

Entering the weekend, nearly 700 coronavirus cases had been reported statewide in Iowa, according to data obtained by the Register. Nearly 15% of those confirmed cases were in Polk County, home to Des Moines.

On Friday, Reynolds disputed infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci’s assertion that all states should issue shelter-in-place orders. She claims it’s not necessary in Iowa, reported Cedar Rapids TV station KGAN.

“The term ‘shelter-in-place’ does not mean that any state orders are different from or stronger than what we are doing in Iowa,” Reynolds said Friday. “What matters is the substance of order, not its name.”
