NYPD and police from Nassau and Suffolk County investigate following a shooting and vehicle pursuit that ended on the Whitestone Expressway in Queens.

A crazed man shot and wounded the mother of his child in Long Island, then shot himself and drove off bleeding, eluding cops for 45 miles until he was arrested in Queens, police said Monday.

The chaos began when Jiuber Mejia-Chicas, 35, allegedly shot his 28-year-old girlfriend at her home on Morris Ave. in Holtsville about 9:25 p.m. Sunday.

He then turned the gun on himself, according to cops, blasting himself in the jaw before speeding off in a 2005 Ford Escape.

As the victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition, police searched for the suspect, who was not badly hurt by the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Carey tried to pull Mejia-Chicas over on the westbound Long Island Expressway but the suspect refused to stop, police said.

Mejia-Chicas drove all the way through Nassau County and into Queens, where he was finally arrested on the Whitestone Expressway.

He was treated at New York-Presbyterian Queens, then returned to Suffolk County, where he was charged with assault, gun possession and criminal use of a firearm, authorities said.
