IAF fighter jets attacked a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in northern Gaza on Sunday night, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said.

Six different targets were attacked at the site, including buildings and terrorist infrastructures, according to the statement. The attack was in retaliation for the rocket fire on the Gaza Belton Sunday evening.

“The IDF views the firing of rockets at Israeli communities very seriously and will not allow any harm or attempt to harm the citizens of the State of Israel. Hamas is solely responsible for what is happening in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF statement said.

On Sunday evening, two rockets from Gaza were fired into Israeli territory. One of them hit a town near the Gaza border in the western Negev. The rocket reportedly exploded next to a home in the community, but caused no injuries. The building was lightly damaged.

Several hours later, at around 3:00 a.m., rocket sirens were heard in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council and in the Ashkelon Industrial Zone. The IDF later said that those sirens were heard after a rocket had been fired from Gaza, but the rocket exploded within Gaza.

Last Wednesday evening, at least three rockets were fired at Israeli territory from Gaza. The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets. A third exploded in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council.

Several residents of Sderot were treated for shock following the rocket attack. Another man who suffered injuries when he fell while running to a shelter was treated as well.

The IDF later retaliated and struck three targets in Gaza belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization and which serve as training and storage sites for weapons.
