In another blow to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian parliament voted to remove the current economics minister from office, amid the sharp decline in the country’s currency.
Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Masoud Karbasian was removed from office, amid growing discontent over the economic situation in the country. Iranian media said 137 lawmakers voted to remove the minister, with 121 against.
In early August, the country’s minister of labor was voted out on similar grounds.
The moves come after US President Donald Trump
began reimposing sanctions on Iran following the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.
Protests against the repressive Iranian regime began last December, reaching more than 80 cities and resulting in at least 21 deaths.
Since then,
protests have continued sporadically in Tehran’s “Grand Bazaar,” sometimes resulting in violent confrontations with security forces.
