Prince Andrew brushed aside tradition and hugged his new son-in-law at the Queen's reception after the royal wedding.

The Royal Family and wedding guests attended a reception in Windsor Castle's St George's Hall after the wedding ceremony today.

The Duke of York reportedly gave a lovely speech about the happy couple and kicked aside royal conventions to embrace Jack Brooksbank, guests told MailOnline.

The groom's old headmaster Anthony Wallersteiner said of the hug: 'It was the high point for everyone. The Duke said, "I'm going to break York House rules now", and he went over and gave Jack a big hug.

'It was in front of everyone, even the Queen. It was a huge moment, a human moment.'

The highlight of Prince Andrew's speech, he said, was a joke involving his new son-in-law, Jack Brooksbank, and the prince's highland terrier, who is also called Jack.

'The Duke of York told a wonderful joke in his speech,' Mr Wallersteiner said. 'He recalled that his dog Jack was sitting on a chair and he shouted, 'Jack, get off!'

'The dog didn't move, he said, but Jack Brooksbank shot up and fled.'

The groom's speech, his old headmaster said, was 'filled with devotion to Eugenie'.

'That was most of his speech,' he said. 'The first thing he said was that his bride looked utterly stunning.

'He talked about how she lights up his life and makes him feel complete. There was a real sense that he absolutely means it. It was so touching.'

Eugenie herself did not make a speech, he added, but she looked 'absolutely radiant and beautiful.'

Pianist Peter Roper-Curzon, who accompanied singer Andrea Bocelli, told MailOnline: ‘We had risotto, but I never got any cake' and his wife Victoria added: ‘Eugenie looked beautiful, really absolutely stunning.’

Finger food was served at the reception and a particular highlight was the baby coffee eclairs and one guest said: 'They were divine. We could barely concentrate on the speeches'.

The Aston Martin DB10 waiting for the couple was clearly a surprise for Eugenie who said "wow" and was left opened mouthed when she saw it.

Eight models were made to film the 2015 movie Spectre starring Daniel Craig, and Jack managed to get the keys to one of the coveted cars.

Eugenie first spotted the Aston Martin when the newlyweds arrived at the Equerry's entrance at Windsor Castle to say their goodbyes.

Royal couple plump for Autumn-inspired wedding cake

Princess Eugenie's elaborate wedding cake is a towering creation, decorated in autumnal orange leaves and dark green ivy sugar work.

The five-tier centrepiece, made of layers of red velvet and chocolate, is covered in white icing and features the bride and groom's initials E and J in golden monograms around the base.

It was crafted by London-based cake designer Sophie Cabot.

The cake was mounted on a golden stand, and on show in the vast St George's Hall.

It contains up to 400 eggs, at least 53 packs of unsalted butter, 15 kilograms of organic self raising flour, and 20 kilos of sugar.

The cake consists of three tiers of red velvet and two of chocolate sponge cake covered with butter cream and white icing.

Other ingredients include vanilla essence, vanilla bean paste and red food colouring to give the cake its distinctive hue.

There was also opera star Andrea Bocelli's spine-tingling rendition of Ave Maria but a reading by Princess Eugenie from The Great Gatsby was an unconventional touch as was using abstract art on the back cover of the Order of Service.
