In 1906, American photographer Edward S. Curtis was commissioned by J.P. Morgan to document the life of North American Indians.
So Curtis set out to photograph the North American Indians’ way of life at a time when they were being forced out of their lands and stripped off of their rights.
What Curtis captured was a romantic version of the culture - a stark contrast to the popular view of Native Americans as savages.
