A man about 60 years of age was seriously wounded by a rocket shot into the area of Kibbutz Yad Mordechai near the Gaza Strip. A Magen David Adom (MDA) team treated him and evacuated him to Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon.Earlier, 2 men were seriously wounded and another was moderately wounded after a rocket landed on a factory in the city of Ashkelon.
"MDA teams are treating and transferring to Barzilai Hospital 3 wounded with shrapnel injuries including a 40 year old and 22 year old with multi-systemic trauma. An additional 50 year old man is being treated for moderate injuries to his upper body and extremities," an MDA spokesperson said.
Senior MDA paramedic, Israel Lugassi, shared: "When we arrived at the scene, we noticed a lot of distraction. There were 3 males laying outside of the factory. A 22 year-old youngster was laying on the ground unconscious. He sustained wounds to his entire body after being hit by shrapnel. Next to him, there was a man in his 40s, who was also unconscious with wounds caused by shrapnel. A third male (in his 50s) who was also wounded, was fully conscious and walking around the scene. He suffered from a bleeding wound in his back. We provided them with lifesaving medical treatment on the scene and evacuated the patients while continuing treatment. We transmitted them to the trauma room in the hospital. The 22-year-old was critically wounded, the 40-year-old was severely wounded, and the 50-year old was mildly wounded."
Code Red sirens were sounded in many communities in the south, in the Beer Sheva area, in the Gaza perimeter, in Hatzerim and in the Bedouin regions, as barrages of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli territory.
Most of the rockets have been intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
Blue and White Chairman MK Benny Gantz, who is now in the Gaza vicinity, ran to a bomb shelter with journalists who were waiting to hear from him about the deterioration of the security situation.
The Political-Security Cabinet is meeting at this time to discuss the escalation in the south and the possibilities of Israel's response to the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.
