I read in the 90s that the Amazon was being cut down and burned to make room for grazing fields for cattle so that McDonald's and other fast food giants could maintain their supply of cheap beef, it was part of what lead me to becoming a vegetarian way back when.

Now, more than 20-years later, the same is still true.
