A Palestinian man was killed by Israeli fire during riots along the Gaza-Israel border fence on Friday, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, as thousands took part in weekly protests.

Sahar Othman, 20, was shot by Israeli forces in the chest near Rafah in southern Gaza, the ministry said in a statement, adding that 28 Palestinians were wounded.

The Israel Defense Forces had no immediate comment on the death, but earlier said over 7,000 Palestinians took part in the day’s protests with some rioters throwing rocks and explosives at the security fence and at troops along the border.

The rioters also burned tires and threw fire bombs and one Palestinian briefly crossed into Israeli territory before immediately returning to the other side of the border. One military vehicle was lightly damaged when hit by an explosive device, but no injuries were reported, the IDF said.
