The death of an artistic young Bronx woman found decomposing inside her apartment was officially ruled a homicide Friday — though investigators don’t know how she was slain due to the corpse’s ghastly condition.

Cops responding to an unrelated April 11 incident inside the E. 187th St. building near Belmont Ave. discovered victim Dominique Ben-David, 22, after smelling a foul odor coming from her residence around 2 a.m.

A next-door neighbor said she first noticed the stench about two to three weeks before the body was found, and recalled how the victim and her boyfriend fought frequently.

“I don’t know who was beating who but it sounded like he was beating her," recounted the neighbor, declining to share her name. “I was just trying to mind my own business, but I knew there was something a little off there. When the police showed up I knew that was the smell I was smelling."

Ben-David shared the apartment for at least the last six months with a man, another woman and a child, according to the neighbor. The neighbor said she often heard a lot of screaming, the sound of plates crashing against walls and furniture getting knocked over.

In several cryptic Facebook messages from four months ago, Ben-David made reference to a troubled relationship that she predicted would not end well.

“This past ride was crazy,” she wrote on Dec. 11, 2019. “I still want him ... I long for this danger wildman and this love will definitely be the death of me. I can’t stop going back for more.”

The victim’s heartbroken mom confirmed her daughter’s unusual living arrangements without getting into the specifics of their relationship.

“My daughter was beautiful and creative,” Shana Ben-David, 49, told the Daily News. “She was everything. She drew, she danced, she sang. She was an artist. My daughter was sweet. She had a heart of gold. I want whoever did this to be held accountable.”

No arrests have been made.

The neighbor recalled how the victim’s apartment suddenly went silent about two weeks ago.

“It was quiet and that’s the creepy thing about it," the neighbor said. "No one coming in or out of that apartment. These walls are thin so when someone knocks a cup over you’re going to hear it.

“I was shook up, I’m still shook up," she continued. "I think I need to get a dog now or something.”
