President Trump’s former fixer Michael Cohen has been thrown into solitary confinement because he got into an argument with another federal inmate, his attorney said Thursday.
“Following a verbal altercation with a fellow inmate, Michael Cohen was transferred from general population to SHU (Special Housing Unit) as the incident is appropriately investigated,” his lawyer, Roger Adler, told the Daily News.
Under Bureau of Prisons policy, inmates can be sent to the special housing unit as punishment, or to separate them from the general prison population for security or other reasons.
Cohen, 53, is serving a three-year sentence for evading taxes, lying to Congress, bank fraud and campaign finance violations. Despite a plea for early release over coronavirus concerns, he’s scheduled to get out of prison on Nov. 22, 2021.
Once a fierce Trump loyalist, Cohen — the president’s longtime personal lawyer — turned on him in 2018 during special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and Trump’s hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
