A mother has revealed her terrifying 90-minute ordeal at the hands of a thug ex who threatened 'you're not leaving this house alive' as he beat her with a hammer.
Natalie Inskip, 25, was left covered in bruises and fearful for her life after Mark Oliver stamped on her head and threatened to kill her.
Natalie, from Howdon, Tyne and Wear, thought she was going to die at the hands of the 31-year-old on November 28 last year.
He beat her and then produced a plastic sheet, warning her he would wrap her in it as she wasn't going to leave his house alive.
The attack was sparked by a petty row after Mark, who she later found out had previous convictions for assaulting women, accused her of taking his cigarettes.
The mother to two boys, aged four and one, said: 'When I saw the hammer in his hand I just froze. I was in complete shock. I'd never been in a situation like that before.
'It started with him asking where his cigarettes were, that was it. I could see the evil in him. It was then I knew he had a dark soul. He looked right through me. I can still see that look now, it still terrifies me, it was pure evil.
'The pain was just unbelievable. I was at the window screaming for help. He told me, 'You do realise you're not leaving this house alive?'
'At that point, when he brought out the plastic, I thought I wasn't ever going to get to leave that house. I thought I was never going to see my boys ever again.
'I would have done anything to get out of the house alive. He changed all of a sudden and stopped attacking me. I was exhausted and fell asleep on the couch. I think my body shut down. When I woke up I escaped.
'I didn't have any shoes on my feet, a bag, coat or anything. I just left. I went straight home, and when my mum saw me I was a mess.'
Natalie reported Mark to the police and he was charged with a string of offences.

She was taken to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland, where she was treated for her injuries.
Newcastle Crown Court heard Natalie was left with significant bruising to her legs, arms, back and face, with two black eyes and what appeared to be a foot mark on her forehead.
The thug, from Newcastle, pleaded guilty to assault and threats to kill and was jailed for four-and-a-half years.
The court heard he has previous convictions for abusive and threatening behaviour towards women.
Oliver was jailed for 10 months in 2017 after telling an ex he would kill her and her son after she told the police he had assaulted her.

Natalie said: 'His sentence is a disgrace, I don't think it is long enough for someone like him, he won't even serve half of it.
'I want to get it out there that women should be warned about him. I didn't know what he had previously done and he just did it again.
'I thought he was going to kill me in that flat, I thought that was it. It seems like he gets off on bullying women, I don't think four-and-a-half years is nearly long enough.
'I want to say to any women out there suffering, find the strength in yourself to speak out, it is the best thing you can do. The feeling of freedom I had when I got out of that flat, it was my life.
'The strength is inside you, it really is, there is help out there, there will be someone to listen to you.
'These men are just bullies and cowards, we are the strong ones.'
