Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said on Monday that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is preparing to present a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council against the Israeli plan to apply sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria.

Speaking to Voice of Palestine radio and quoted by the Xinhua news agency, Erekat said that the upcoming Security Council meeting will discuss the developments in the region, and especially the Israeli sovereignty plan.

"The meeting will be held at the level of ministers and is very important in the efforts to present a draft resolution to the UN Security Council, despite the United States veto," said Erekat.

"We have an unprecedented support of 192 member states out of 194 members of the United Nations General Assembly, that reject the Israeli move," he added.

Last week, the PA submitted an official request to hold a UN session to discuss the Israeli plan to apply sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria.

The PA is outraged over the coalition agreement between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz, which stipulates that the government can apply sovereignty over Judea and Samaria in July.

In response to the move, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced recently that the PA was no longer bound by the agreements it signed with Israel and the US, including the security coordination with Israel.
