  • The dead man's remains were discovered at Max It Pawn on Monday morning
  • Homicide detectives have taken over the case while an autopsy is carried out
  • A 25-year-old Minnesota man was charged with arson over the pawn shop fire
A dead body has been found in the burned-out remains of a Minneapolis pawn shop which was set ablaze during the George Floyd protests two months ago.
The dead man's charred remains were discovered on Monday morning as authorities combed through the wreckage at Max It Pawn, which was wrecked by the fire on May 28.
A 25-year-old Minnesota man was charged with arson last month after he allegedly poured liquid over the shop and declared that 'we're going to burn this [expletive] down'.
Homicide detectives have now taken over the case while the body has been passed to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

The pawn shop is located close to the Third Police Precinct which was overrun by protesters at the height of the unrest in late May.
Fires were lit across the city after Floyd's death on May 25, following his arrest by white cop Derek Chauvin who knelt on his neck for nearly eight minutes.
Thousands of people ignored a city-wide curfew to take part in the protests which eventually spread across the United States and the world.
Montez Terrill Lee was ordered temporarily detained after he was charged with lighting the Max It Pawn fire on May 28.
Investigators at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said they had received an anonymous tip-off with video of the suspect.
The masked man, identified as Lee, was seen pouring liquid from a metal container throughout the shop, before standing in front of the burning store saying 'we're going to burn this [expletive] down'.
Police have released few details about the discovery of the body on Monday, beyond a statement that he is 'believed to be an adult male'.
'The identity, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Medical Examiner's Office in the days to come,' the statement said.
The Star Tribune quoted police spokesman John Elder as saying that 'the body appears to have suffered thermal injury and we do have somebody charged with setting fire to that place'.

In early June, the paper reported that firefighters had searched a nearby liquor store after witnesses said a man had failed to make it out.
A fire chief said crews had inspected the wreckage at the Lake Street liquor store, but that the condition of the building had forced them to call off the search.
Authorities did not find any trace of the body and the missing person was never identified.
It is not clear whether there is any link between that search and the discovery at the pawn shop yesterday morning.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the US Attorney's Office are assisting Minneapolis cops, a statement said.
The man's death is thought to be the second killing linked to the protests in Minneapolis after Calvin L. Horton, a 43-year-old black man, was fatally shot outside a different pawn shop in May.
The owner of the store, who is white, was arrested in Horton's death but was later released without charge.
The shop, Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, was described as having been significantly damaged during the unrest.
