  • His team's player, Steele Sidebottom, broke COVID-19 rules while intoxicated
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has been caught out demanding any AFL player who breaks lockdown rules be fined $100,000 and banned for the rest of the season - shortly before downplaying a breach by a member of his team.
Mr McGuire said the AFL needs to enforce serious banes and fines for players who breach COVID-19 protocol when he appeared on the TV show Footy Classified on April 29.
'So maybe it has to be $100,000 and he gets suspended for the year,' Mr McGuire said.
The Magpies boss's rant surfaced after he criticised the four-week suspension of one of his players, Steele Sidebottom, 29, who breached COVID-19 restrictions on a drunken night out with teammates.

One of the panellists, Matthew Lloyd, told McGuire that players will continue to break the rules and there is nothings the clubs could do about it.
'Well, you know what, we say that all the time, ''Like ah, the naughty boys.'' But no, it has to be the last time. It really does,' McGuire responded.
McGuire said if the AFL continues to lose money as a result of the coronavirus lockdowns, no one will have a job in 2021.
The host of the show then cut off McGuire and tried to move the conversation along to another topic.
But McGuire talked over him and said he hopes his suggestion comes up during the AFL Players' Association membership meeting, held on the night of the program.

Sidebottom and teammate Lynden Dunn, 33, spent Saturday night at the home of teammate Jeremy Howe, who suffered a season-ending knee injury a night earlier.
While at Howe's home, Sidebottom's heavy drinking triggered a series of events.
Dunn headed straight home, Sidebottom took an Uber to the house of Daniel Wells, a former teammate, which was another breach given that he isn't part of Collingwood's COVID-19 compliant bubble.
Sidebottom finally went home at 7.30am the next day, and police found him wandering the streets of Williamstown.
McGuire tried to downplay Sidebottom's actions on Footy Classified.
'These days in the media, you could cure cancer and get a parking ticket on Monday, and the lead would be the parking ticket,' McGuire claimed.
He argued that the star player had just drunk too much scotch and it affected him.
