A man in his twenties has been attacked by a four-metre white shark at a popular surfing beach in the south-west of Western Australia.

Emergency services were called to The Farm Surfing Spot at Bunker Bay in Naturaliste, north of Margaret River, just around 2.15pm on Friday.

WA Police confirmed a helicopter was sent to the popular surfing spot and a man believed to be in his twenties was brought to shore with injuries to his leg.

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known and he has been airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.

A Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development statement said they were investigating the attack.

'Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development are currently investigating a possible shark bite incident at Bunker Bay in the City of Busselton.

'DPIRD is working with local authorities and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
