Jude Bellingham is already taking intensive German lessons to ensure he can follow instructions when Borussia Dortmund start their Bundesliga campaign next month.

The 17-year-old joined Dortmund from Birmingham in July for a fee that could rise above £30million and, along with mother Denise who has moved with him, he has been learning the local language most days since his arrival.

Bellingham's approach is in marked contrast to that of many other British footballers who have played abroad but been unwilling or unable to master the language.As Sportsmail revealed last month, Bellingham has been deployed in central midfield during his short time with Dortmund and impressed there in the recent 6-0 friendly win over Austrian club SCR Altach, helping to create two goals. 

Although Bellingham usually started wide on the left for Birmingham, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre believes he will be far more effective in the centre.

Bellingham said: 'My greatest strength is that I'm versatile and can play almost anywhere - but central midfield is my favourite position as it allows me to dictate play.

'All the players here have qualities that I can add to my game and it will be fun measuring myself against them.' 

Bellingham had barely a week's break between completing the season with Birmingham - his boyhood club narrowly avoided relegation to League One - and starting preparations for 2020-21 with Dortmund, who finished second in the table last season, 13 points behind champions Bayern Munich.

He added: 'I feel fit and fresh. It helps that I've been able to get started right away here.'
