“Make no mistake: the United States of America will protect and defend its citizens. This includes those serving the United States now and those who formerly served,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement. “As Americans, we have our disagreements on politics. Tehran sanctioned 51 Americans for the 2020 killing of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike.
