An Israeli security guard of 20 was shot and killed by two terrorists firing from a blue Suzuki as they drove up to a guard booth outside the Israeli Samarian town of Ariel on Friday night. Unable to resuscitate the guard, paramedics were forced to declare him dead. They treated his female partner for shock. Security cameras showed one of the two terrorists then jumping out and shooting at the guard booth with an improvised Carlo submachine gun, while his confederate U-turned the car to pick him up while continuing to fire. They then drove off towards nearby Palestinian villages. The Suzuki was later found burnt out in the Palestinian town Bidya. IDF forces have also encircled Salfit, another Palestinian town nearby. Roadblocks were thrown up. The army and several special forces units are taking part in the search.

Ariel and its environs are on lockdown in case of more attacks. Brig.-Gen Avi Blut, OC Judea and Samaria told reporters on Saturday that the young guard died whle shielding his partner from the gunfire. They were later revealed to be an engaged couple.

The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (an armed wing of Fatah) claimed responsibility for the attack. Hamas lauded it.
