New York City dog parks and runs will be closed until further notice as part of efforts to stop the spread of the deadly virus, according to a local lawmaker.

“As of today, the following new actions will be taken: Dog runs will be closed until further notice,” Council Minority Leader Steven Matteo (R- Staten Island) tweeted Monday morning.

“All tennis courts, handball courts & basketball courts located outside of playgrounds will be closed until further notice,” Matteo added. “Any existing fences or gates will be locked & tennis nets & basketball rims will be removed.”

While soccer fields will remain open, they’ll be closely monitored to ensure players and users who aren’t in the same households are following social distancing and are six feet apart.

“Any soccer fields where persistent disregard of social distancing is observed will be closed to the public, gates will be locked, & goals removed,” Matteo said.

The Parks Department didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Playgrounds and rec centers are also closed, along with nature centers, historic houses within parks and the city’s marinas.
