Cops have identified the 27-year-old kayaker who was lost in the waters of the Raritan Bay over the weekend, and have released his photo in the hope he made it to shore and somebody spots him.
Jonathan Derbyshire, 27, and two others were boating off the south shore of Staten Island Saturday around noon when their kayak overturned, cops said.
Another boater spotted their vessel and rescued two of the kayakers, who were treading water nearby. But Derbyshire was nowhere to be found.
Police were still searching for him Sunday.
He’s described as white, about 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds with a muscular build, with hazel eyes, brown hair and an American flag tattoo on his forearm. He was wearing a grey bathing suit.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
Derbyshire made headlines more than three years ago for his alleged involvement in a wild scene near Androvette St. and Arthur Kill Road on Staten Island. On Jan. 5, 2017, cops responded after authorities said he and Patrick Allen, the great-grandson of former New York Post owner Dorothy Schiff, were allegedly test-firing guns.
Derbyshire reportedly pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon and was sentenced to a year in jail.
