Mayor de Blasio thanked Colorado paramedic Paul Cary and held his heroism up as a “powerful story of human devotion” after he died of COVID-19 while volunteering in New York City.

Cary, 66, came last month all the way from his hometown of Aurora, Colo., to lend a helping hand in the Big Apple, where he tragically contracted coronavirus and died at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.

Cary “didn’t come from here and was only here a short time, but gave to New York City so much,” Hizzoner said at a Sunday press conference, adding that first responders here honored the hero “as if he had been a lifelong New Yorker.”

De Blasio also noted Saturday’s Daily News cover story about Cary, who was part of the COVID-19 response team that FEMA dispatched to New York state.

“To think that one of the most prominent newspapers in the country honored this man, who came here of his own choice to protect us and serve us — that was a very beautiful tribute,” the mayor said.
