The number of new coronavirus cases in Russia continues to rise.

Sunday marked the fourth consecutive day that Russia has experienced a record increase in COVID-19 cases, CNN reported.

The country registered an additional 10,633 cases on Sunday, bringing its total tally of positive tests to 134,687. Russia reported more than 9,600 new cases on Saturday.

There have been 1,280 known deaths from coronavirus within Russia, according to the country's coronavirus officials.

More than half of the overall cases in the country are reported to have been in Moscow, the city with the highest population in Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently extended the country's partial lockdown.

“The daily increase in cases has relatively stabilized but this mustn’t calm us down, the situation is still very serious,” Putin said last week, according to CNN. “The peak is not behind us, we are about to face a new and grueling phase of the pandemic... the deadly threat of the virus remains.”

Russia’s coronavirus response headquarters says people have been asymptomatic in roughly half of the country’s cases.

Russia has recorded the 7th-most cases of COVID-19 among all nations.
