An off-duty NYPD cop authorities say fatally shot a childhood friend during a fight on Long Island has been arrested for murder, officials said Thursday.

Police Officer Errick Allen, 26, allegedly gunned down Christopher Curro, 25, during a fight in Farmingdale, L.I. on May 12.

“We trust our police officers to protect the safety of New Yorkers, but instead, this individual allegedly betrayed that duty to end another man’s life,” state Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement. “No one is above the law, and my office is committed to ensuring justice is served.”

After shooting his longtime pal, Allen ran to his home a few blocks away and told his father what had happened, authorities said.

By the time the two returned, police were at the scene and Allen was taken into custody for questioning by Nassau County homicide detectives.

The state Attorney General’s office took over the case, citing their mandate that they are required to investigate all police-involved shootings when the victim is unarmed.
